I spend a lot of time trying to influence people and to help them live out their God-given abilities. But there are times I forget that my words (or God’s Words) might sound inspiring, but often we don’t move ahead and live out our God-given abilities is because we are still living in our past. We think God could not use us with the mistakes we have made.
His Word is True
God’s Word is true. We cannot live as a sinner and expect His grace. We cannot live with unrepentant sin and expect His grace.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
But when we are living our lives with Him at the center and have asked for forgiveness, He uses us is great ways.
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
Sometimes we make the mistake of repenting yet still living with the guilt of our sins.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
We all make this mistake.
I did not become a believer until I was in my early thirties. Me and my husband had an awful marriage the first six years of our marriage living as miserable unhappy sinners. And before I met my husband I lived my life as a dejected sinner. I told lies. I gossiped. I called people cruel names if they made me upset. I called my husband cruel names. I called his mother and his family cruel names if I felt like it. I thought people living in blatant sin were sufferers of the world and should be approved. In fact, somehow I constantly made friends with people who are homosexual. Every single homosexual who befriended me on the surface was a very gentle and nice person. I was angry at the injustice in the way they were treated. They were born that way as I was told by one and I had compassion for anyone living as a homosexual.
I cheated on tests. I lied on my resume. I callously lied sitting in job interviews.
Without Jesus Christ we can be capable of anything – yet with Christ we are sinners saved by His grace and He can give us back what the locusts stole from us.
Joel 2:25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm—
my great army that I sent among you.”
He can give us a life with Him which is beautiful.
When I repented on my sins and asked Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of my life – first my blind eyes were open and then I was forgiven. I still have compassion for sinners – for all sinners – because I was – and I am still one of them. There are many times Satan will bring up my old life and try to condemn and make me believe God will never use a person like me. There are times Satan will remind me of my prior thinking – and for a quick moment I will feel shame.
2 Corinthians 4:3 “The god of this age, Satan, has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
There are times Satan will remind me of my once awful marriage, which is now sensational! And that’s when I am reminded that Satan is wrong and he can go directly where he belongs. It’s a fight to believe God has forgiven you. He has. There are always certain consequences to your sins, but it does not mean God can’t use you once you have repetend. BUT – you cannot be the one to decide how God will use you.
Sometimes we have an idea in our head of how God should be using us. We decide in our minds that if He has really forgiven us – this or that should happen, and if it’s not happening, we decide we are unforgiven.
It’s not true.
God has forgiven you if you have repented and have asked for His forgiveness. He will use you if you allow yourself to be forgiven and let Him use you His way – not your way.
I am resolute that God desires to use every person who is willing to be used to share His love and forgiveness with others. The issue is us – not Him. We are waiting for this moment to happen to make us believe His Word that He has really forgiven us. God will put many people in your path today who need to know His love and forgiveness, but you will ignore it because you are waiting for Him to prove He has forgiven you by using you your way. If He doesn’t use you your way, you assume you aren’t really forgiven – so you do nothing. You miss so many opportunities every single day to be used for His Kingdom.
Today friend will you allow His forgiveness to live through you? Can you share His love and forgiveness with someone today? You will meet many people today who need to know they are loved and forgiven. Jesus Christ wasn’t sitting around waiting to believe. He taught God’s love and forgiveness to whoever He came into contact with.
My friend if you have repented on your sins you are forgiven. Your past cannot control you. God is in control of your destiny so – be forgiven and be used by Him today!
