Our neighbor is a young man in his early twenties. He walks around our block at least 50-60 times nonstop. I would say it averages out to 4-5 miles. He walks very fast…And he is legally blind. There are times he has his guide dog with him and there are times he has only his walking stick.
Walk for Life
One day I sat and watched him walk nonstop and I thought about life. Many of us would likely stop walking after two laps and convince ourselves we really did a great workout. We’ll get back to our life of not doing much at being productive. We’ll head back to social media or TV or texting.
I thought about that young man (who is also in seminary), and I thought about life and why many of us give up so easily. Why do we only halfway try? Why is it we only do enough to get by but not enough to really make a difference?
Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Many of us only do enough to get by because it’s hard to keep doing good. It’s hard to become great. Do you ever look at people and believe they were just born special? They were born to make a difference, but you weren’t. Do you know how much of a lie that is?
People who achieve greatness for God are not special chosen people while the rest of us are just here to watch them. God wants us all to do great things for Him; the only problem is MANY people will never become who God wants them to be because they’ll only do two laps and nothing else. They’ll live their lives getting by while they wait for some magical day when God finally bestows greatness on them.
God has bestowed greatness on you.
…But you get weary in doing good. There are many ideas and passions you have for God. You truly want to see those ideas come to life. You really want to be great for God, but you don’t do enough. You’re not willing to keep going around the block.
Today is the day you really believe God’s Word. This verse, Galatians 6:9, is not just words of inspiration. It is God’s spoken Word. He says we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up. He is talking to me. He is talking to you.
Today, ask God to help you keep going around the block. Ask Him to help you fight the fight for Him. Start small and watch Him do something big today in your life. I want to hear about it so email me when He does. Pray and ask Him to show up to give you hope.
