1 John 2:16 “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
We might overlook a verse like this and think this verse speaks to nonbelievers. Certainly this verse isn’t speaking to you – or me, right?
You’re not envious of anyone…right?
Recently I found myself in a situation where I had a wonderful opportunity to stand up and do the right thing, but I didn’t. I was given a promotion at work, but the promotion came at the expense of someone else in my department. Rather than stand up and graciously turn down this promotion, so to not hurt a fellow coworker, I happily excepted it.
Because I was obsessed with feeling special; feeling as if I had finally made it. The “lust of the eyes” had me fooled.
My sister, don’t gloss over this verse. We are all susceptible to the lust of the flesh and eyes. We all can allow envy to cause us to walk with the world – rather than standing up for the things of God.
Had I did the right thing and stood up for a fellow coworker, how might God be glorified in my life, the coworkers life, the department I worked in, and the organization I worked for?
Meditate on this verse this week and look for ways to reject the lust of the flesh and eyes and stand up for God! And when you do dear friend, give God the glory!!
