Is There Any Reason…

…To Rest Easy Right Now?

It’s no secret in the news right now that religious freedoms are constantly being challenged. For the past several months churches are being forced to close their doors.

The ever growing argument by some is; “God isn’t in a building so why don’t churches just close their doors for a time being.”

No, God isn’t in a building, but God established the church and from the earliest days of the church, people did meet in some form of a brick and mortar to worship together. We simply live in a new day and time where the brick and mortar of the church has evolved.

But it’s not just churches under attack-  it’s Christian schools too.

It’s a scary time.

The American Constitution protects religion. People may or may not fully understand The Constitution but regardless of ones own understanding religion is in fact protected.

Amendment I “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Bill of Rights Article the third… “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

While many United States Governors and Mayors are fully aware of The Constitution they choose to abuse their power anyway. It’s hard when you have to try to fight through evil. It’s easier to just give up and allow corruption to win.

But should we?

Daniel 6:3-4 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.

Daniel worshipped God. He loved God. He lived his life to honor God. Daniel made enemies because he worked hard, did a good job, and King Darius was fond of him.

There may be times in your life when you are living and honoring God and his favor will rest upon you, yet your life might be a thorn to other people. Like Daniel, people might find ways to attack you. The administrators could not find anything within Daniel’s personal life to attack  – so they attacked his religion. This was a deliberate attack;

Daniel 6:5 “Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

The attack on God, the attack on religion is nothing new. God is an enemy to those who reject Him. God is an enemy to those who refuse Him. God is an enemy to those who don’t know Him. And if you love God you can be assured at one point or another in your life – you will be attacked too!

Jesus says the same; John 15:18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.

Living for God is no easy feat. You might find that you have very few friends. You might find yourself under severe attacks daily by Satan. You might feel like it’s you against the world at times. But when you live for God you are an enemy to the world. If you seek popularity – you reject God. If you seek approval from man – you reject God. We walk through a narrow gate in which everyone cannot and will not enter.

The walk is hard but is it worth the fight?

Daniel 6:6-9 “So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever! The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” So King Darius put the decree in writing.”

The edict was set. No one could worship anyone else expect for King Darius. If they did they were to be thrown into the lion’s den.

When Daniel heard the news he went home to his room, opened the door to Jerusalem gave thanks and  prayed three times a day to God to seek His help.

What else can we do?

God is our refuge in times of trouble.

When the world is against us, we have no choice but to pray and seek His Holy wisdom.

Daniel was caught praying and this was against the edict, so he was ordered to be thrown into the lion’s den to be eaten alive. King Darius did not want to see Daniel perish, but he had no choice but to stand on his own law.

Guess what?

The God of this universe has no choice but to stand on his own law too!

Exodus 20:3-5 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

When we honor and obey God, He is faithful.

Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den.

Seriously, we read these stories sometimes and gloss over them without realizing the magnitude of what we are reading. Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den and under all other circumstances he should have been mauled to death. But he wasn’t!

Daniel 6:21-22  “Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”

Daniel was saved!

God is good!

In the world we live in today what should we do under religious attacks? Should we coward and run or should we pray to God for wisdom. Even though religion is protected under The Constitution in America, we are protected under the law of God. God tells us we are not to have any other gods. We are not to worship any other gods.

In 1982 famed theologian Francis A. Schaffer said; If there is no place for disobeying the government, that government has been put in place of the living God and in that case, that government has been made nothing less than a false god!”

We have a fight on our hands people!

God is being challenged every day!

Religious freedom is being challenged every day!

We must stand up for God!

In this day of Covid, yes it is very serious. Our family has had Covid. We know several people who have passed away from Covid, yet – the church has the right to make the correct decision for the safety of their congregation. I truly believe God fearing praying leaders in the church will in fact make the right decisions without being forced to by the government. I happen to believe most people will make the right decisions right now without being forced to by the government.

The attack on religion will never end. We must…

Pray. Pray. Pray.

Just like Daniel, seek God for His wisdom.

Is there any hope today?

Can we rest easy?

We serve the almighty God and when we live to honor and obey Him, He will shut the mouth of the lion and save you! Save us!
