So, this past week the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, had to issue an apology for attending a social gathering with several people all while he has an edict in place locking down his state – again. Small businesses once again will suffer. Children cannot go to school. Families cannot gather for Thanksgiving dinner together. All due to the fear of the Coronavirus.
But apparently it’s not too fearful if Newsom can attend social gatherings. And his children get to go to school every day.
Proverbs 28:2 “When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.”
For a government or society to endure it needs wise leaders who fear God and make decisions to honor God. When a leader is selfish, their leadership will hurt many people. When people in general are selfish, their decisions hurt other people.
When a drunk driver gets behind the wheel it can hurt many families due to a car accident. When a spouse has an affair, it can hurt many families. When someone steals from a store it can affect those who would never steal.
Our selfish actions affect more than ourselves.
On the outside we look like great people but our inner hearts reveal who we are and we can hurt people, our communities – our nation!
Actions speak louder than words. Are you a praying Christian who prays daily that God will cause national leadership to repent? Do you pray God will raise up godly leadership in the government? Are you praying for young people to have a heart for God with a desire to go into politics?
Don’t simply judge those who are abusing their powers right now.
Look at yourself.
Are you a praying Christian? Are you praying for God to move in our nation today? Are you praying for godly leadership?
Do you need to apologize to God for not taking prayer seriously?
Speak, Lord, for WE are listening. Teach us to pray!
