Trust Him in All Things!

…Even a Play?

Saleama A. Ruvalcaba, MATS

Exactly two weeks ago, I had the great honor of playing Jochebed, the mother of Moses, in a short reenactment for Family Worship services at my church, Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.

I was offered this part.

I was honored.

As soon as I learned I’d be playing this part I went to God in prayer. I thanked Him. Then I began to study and read more about Jochebed. I’ve read the Bible plenty of times to know the story of Moses, but I spent time focused on Jochebed.

Do you realize Jochebed had to stand up against the government of her day and go against the “law?”

Yes. All newborn baby boys were ordered by the Pharaoh to be killed. The deliverer of the Hebrew slaves was said to be among the newborn baby boys, thus fearing for his throne, Pharaoh ordered all baby boys killed. Jochebed had no idea her son, whom at that time had no name, was chosen by God to one day help deliver the Hebrew slaves to freedom. All she knew was she was going to save his life by putting him in a waterproof basket in the Nile River with the hopes he would be found by an Egyptian woman who might adopt him so he could live. That was a tall order! Impossible hope! But…Jochebed put her trust in God!

In the same way, I put my trust in God. I was honored to be asked to play the part of Jochebed – but who am I? I’m not a trained actress. I’m just an ordinary woman who enjoys great theater. I love live productions. I’ve always had a love for acting. It’s been inside me since the age of 10. I’ve always dreamed of one day becoming an actress but life didn’t take me on that journey- until now. I put my full trust and faith in God to play Jochebed to the best of my ability. We had rehearsals for a week. Each time, I prayed and I told God I could not play this part without His Holy Spirit. I prayed and asked God to help me remember my lines and portray Jochebed with passion!

We had three Family Worship services that weekend to present this re-enactment. Each time, right before walking onto the stage I prayed and said “God, I honor you. I cannot do this without you!”

The re-enactment was a hit! The minister that weekend said the re-enactment empowered his preaching of the text! The entire cast did great!

Do you trust God like Jochebed? Do you pray and ask Him to guide your steps in something which might seem silly – like a play? Do you know He governs all and wants us to trust Him with all we do!

Do you love God with all your heart? Have you ever asked Him to be your Lord and Savior? Do you know He wants a relationship with you today? If you’ve never received Jesus as your Lord and Savior – receive Him now! Begin a new life today! You can trust Him because He loves you! Just like He loved Jochebed and Moses.

Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
